Week 2 - MBA 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami

As discussed in last week's reading of Surfing the Tsunami, artificial intelligence (AI) is already making significant impact in most major industries. This week, we further explored specific areas impacted by AI, such as physical and virtual automation, advice/digital assistants, analysis, science, and space (Kelsey, 2018).

AI is influencing industries such as media and education as well (Thomas, 2022). Within education, AI-digitized textbooks have been in early development along with virtual tutors with the ability to recognize emotions and facial expressions of students who may been struggling. Media companies such as Bloomberg even uses Cyborg technology to expedite processing complex financial reports.

Regardless of whether you are embracing or fearful of this technology, as emphasized in the book, it is inevitable and should be regarded as such. This inevitability does make me wonder whether studying AI and it's general workings will become a subject necessary to learn for future generations, similar to how and what we learned in math, literature, history, and science. Currently, there are schools such as the Central Board of Secondary Education schools in India, providing AI such as course subject. However, these efforts are far from being standardized internationally. Although it may not occur soon, if AI is to become as influential as it is predicted to be, it would be beneficial to educate younger generations to its basic functions.
